After School Animation Demonstration
The Avalon Music Academy is proud to present this demonstration. Using cels from TV's For Better or For Worse, kids will animate a few seconds of the show. These cels were gifted by Lynn Johnston to Steve Parton, who was one of the show's composers, and he has graciously offered these for use in this workshop.

MUSICONTARIO COMMUNITIES CONNECT: HAMILTON FILM FESTIVAL
FOCUS ON SYNC & LICENSING
November 11, 2016, 1:00-3:30PM @ Sheraton Hamilton Hotel
(116 King St W, Hamilton, ON L8P 4V3)
Followed by Hamilton Film Premiere of Play Your Gender by Stephanie Clattenburg
MusicOntario Communities Connect is all about bridging the gaps between Ontario’s vibrant music markets! During our Community Development Research Project (CDRP), we asked musicians, artists and industry professionals across the province what types of support and education they hoped to have access to regionally (you can read the full results at www.music-ontario.ca).
With that in mind, we’ve tailored this session to cover the topics Hamilton survey respondents want to learn about. From publishing, music supervision/sync, to licensing and rights collectives, working smart in today’s music industry goes beyond optimizing the front end of your business (music sales, gigs, merch). It requires savvy behind the scenes as well: protecting your publishing rights, understanding the value of your intellectual property, and licensing/placing your music in film, television, ads and games can help you generate revenue in the background. Learn from various industry pros how the cogs in the wheel flow together and how to approach the key players to put your music to work!

FIRESIDE CHAT: Visual Effects
Saturday November 12th, 1pm
Sheraton Hamilton Hotel, Heritage Room
Please join us for this very special presentation as we bring together two Academy Award® winners who will interview each other
on the topic of Visual Effects. There is also a chance you will get to see the gold guy!
Colin Chilvers 1978
Academy Award® winner, Special Achievement Award in Visual Effects
Born in London, England, Colin trained for his chosen career through Hornsey college of Art.
Working first as a trainee animation director, then a very short time on 2001 in the Art department, he moved on to special effects as a junior in the special effects department of the movie "The Battle of Britain". He worked on many movies as an assistant until given a chance to supervise an MGM movie "Inspector Clouseau" starring Alan Arkin". Supervising effects on "Tommy", "Lisztomania" and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" among many others, he was then asked to direct the special effects for "SUPERMAN THE MOVIE", "SUPERMAN" II and III. He was honoured by both the British and American academy with the Special achievement award, OSCAR, for Special Effects on "SUPERMAN THE MOVIE." At the beginning of 1986 Colin joined Michael Jackson to direct his next promotional video "SMOOTH CRIMINAL". Colin and Michael worked together for two years on what became the movie "MOONWALKER". The video "SMOOTH CRIMINAL" received many awards, including, "Best video of the year" from the British music awards.
Colin recently received the Nemoland Legend award for his contributionto motion pictures from the Nemo Academy in Florence.
Colin Doncaster 2013

I'm a father, husband and craftsperson who loves creative technology, visual storytelling and a great user experience.
With 20 years of VFX and animation production experience I'm now building our sustainable studio where great ideas, art and technology can thrive. Over the course of my career I have been lucky to have worked on the the Oscar® winning projects Lord of the Rings and Avatar, along with such directors as Peter Jackson, James Cameron and the brilliant Terry Gilliam.
